Language apps are good at vocabulary and routine. They are much weaker at the part that matters most in real conversations: noticing the specific mistakes you make, understanding why you make them, and helping you fix them before they become habits. That requires a person who listens to you.

Preply is an online marketplace that connects learners with tutors for one-to-one video lessons in many languages, as well as other subjects. You choose a tutor based on their profile, experience, price, and reviews, book a trial lesson, and then continue with regular lessons through a subscription. Lessons take place on Preply’s platform, which includes tools to support learning between sessions.

The connection to Mastery is feedback. The Method treats mastery as deliberate practice guided by honest correction. A tutor who hears you speak every week provides exactly that, in a way no automated tool can fully replace.

What Preply Does Differently

The main difference is the choice of tutor. With many tutors at different price points and specializations, you can find someone focused on your actual goal, whether business communication, exam preparation, or everyday conversation, and switch if the fit is not right.

The second difference is the commitment model. Regular lessons on a subscription build a weekly rhythm, which is often what learners lack when they rely only on motivation. Showing up becomes part of your schedule rather than a decision you make each time.

The Honest Part

Tutor quality varies, as in any marketplace. The trial lesson is the moment to evaluate how a tutor corrects you and structures time, and it is worth trying more than one before committing.

Subscriptions renew automatically, so it is important to understand the plan terms and how to pause or change them. Prices vary by tutor and language. Check Preply’s site for current conditions.
